For the past four years, K.Y Nazeer has been supplying vegetables for free to Foundation for Annam Charity Ease (FACE), a Kochi-based charitable organization which provides mid-day meal to hundreds of poor people arriving at their doorstep in search of food.His own experience prompted the 47year old to do something for the poor.
‘I have come across poor children and adults begging for food in public places. However, I was not in a position to help them at that time since I myself had to often tsruggle to eke out a living while I was setting up a market in Ernakulam,” Nazeer said.But that didn’t diminish his ardent desire from doing something to help these poor people. In 2014, Nazeer came across a long queue of destitute people at the office of FACE. On seeing a lot of people standing in the sweltering heat for a long time, that too for their daily source of food, he went inside the office and talked to the officials to find out what kind of help he can offer.
Since he was a vegetable vendor they asked him whether he can supply vegetables on a daily basis. Nazeer immediately agreed to supply the vegetables, that too for free.’It was like some force within pulling me towards these people. The long queue of people waiting in the scorching heat literally moved my mind. There was some sort of heaviness in my mind until I agreed to supply vegetables,” Nazeer said. Today, he is happy and proud to be part of a team which aims to eradicate hunger and has been doing their bit to feed the hungry. ‘Every time I give something to the poor I feel some sort of satisfaction and solace in my mind. In my opinion, if people devote a bit of their time to feed the hungry, a hunger free world will become a reality,” he added.
‘We have been providing midday meal to more than 300 people daily for the past five years. Nazeer supplies around 10kg of vegetables for free for the past four years,” said T R Devan, president of FACE.
